Hantavirus cruise ship heads to Canary Islands amid health fears and political dispute

The cruise ship MV Hondius infected with Hantavirus has left Cape Verde for the Canary Islands and thus entered into jurisdictional conflict with local authorities. Although the Central Spanish Government claims that there is no health risk involved by allowing the docking of MV Hondius in the industrial port of Granadilla in Tenerife, the President of the Canary Islands has expressed clear disapproval, considering the threat very tangible. Passengers on board have also shown discontent regarding the situation. For instance, Turkish YouTuber Ruhi Cenet who used to be a passenger aboard MV Hondius had previously criticized its management for not acting swiftly to isolate the crew and passengers after the first reported fatality on April 11.
